With the augmented reality application for the supplement to Frankfurter Allgemeine and the Horizont in October 2019, Saint Elmo's is among the first to implement a combination of print and augmented reality in high-reach German media.

"Heading into the future!" is the name of the magazine for Serviceplan's Innovation Day 2019, which was published in October as a supplement to the Frankfurter Allgemeine and the Horizont. In focus: New work and digital transformation. But how does a print medium manage to convey the digital future in such a way that it can be directly experienced by the reader? This is where Saint Elmo's comes in.
For the Serviceplan publication, we developed content with augmented reality (AR) that usefully expands the editorial contributions using virtual experiences. A printed infographic animated and seen in 3D? Watch a video on a magazine page? Or get additional information about an article in virtual overlays? – "Into the future!" has some surprises in store for the reader.
The best part is that the AR experience works very easily and without an app! It's web-based and is started directly using a QR code that's printed in the magazine. The reader can then scan each page that is marked with a specific icon with his cell phone camera and call up the associated AR content.

With the AR application for the supplement to the Frankfurter Allgemeine and the Horizont, we're among the first to implement a combination of print and augmented reality in high-reach publications. In keeping with the title of the “Auf die Zukunft!” (English: To the future!) insert, we're also building a bridge between the present and the future of the print media.
