The freight forwarding and transportation industry is one of the sectors that benefits hugely from the technological change. However, the technical progress is not limited to the entry of robots in the warehouses.
Soon, digital technologies such as Big Data, Blockchain, IoT, Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence will radically change logistics processes and make them more efficient, economical and transparent. Reason enough for logistics providers to see digitalization as a turnaround rather than just a trend.
Panalpina, one of the world’s leading supply chain providers, relies on new technologies to offer its business partners up-to-date logistics solutions and firmly set its sights on innovation, customer centricity and digitalization. A great example of this and recent showcase of Panalpina’s approach to technology is the holographic experience that it offered to visitors at Fruit Logistica 2019 in Berlin.
The Mixed Reality application visualized the logistics world of the international carrier by showcasing the journey of fruits and flowers in holographic animations and delivering detailed information about transport routes, modes and conditions. The merging of real and virtual elements resulted in a unique and futuristic experience, that delighted everyone who put on the HoloLens.
In addition, a mobile version of the experience was created, enabling users to revisit the experience at home or on the move. A special flyer served as an augmented reality (AR) trigger: By scanning the QR code on the flyer with their own device, users could access the Panalpina mobile AR experience without having to install an app.
The holographic experience and the web-based AR version were both designed and realized by SAINT ELMO’S Berlin.
